British Airways is the UK's largest international airline, flying to over 550 destinations including New York City.
British Airways is a full service global airline, offering year-round low fares and cheap flights to New York City. You can go online and book cheap flights in combination with great value hotels and car rentals as well.

If you booked your cheap flight to New York from London, then you will be flying out of one of these airports: Biggin Hill, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, South end and City although only Heathrow, Biggin Hill and City Airports are located within Greater London.

London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow is located about 14 miles west of Central London. It is the largest and busiest airport in the United Kingdom. It is the second busiest airport in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and handles more international passengers than any other airport in the world. Heathrow is the primary hub for BMI, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Before you leave your home in the UK, make sure you check flight arrival and departure times for your cheap flight to the city of New York. It is best to arrive at least two hours before departure time in order to accommodate the time it takes for all the security precautions and baggage checking. And don't forget your passport!

Also, there are new security guidelines at Heathrow Airport that all passengers should be aware of. Body scanners are now being introduced at Heathrow Airport according to UK Government requirements. For the safety and protection of all passengers, passengers may be required to be screened by using body scanning devices. Body scanning will be conducted by security officers acting on behalf of the airport operator. Keep in mind that the images of the passengers will not be saved. And most importantly, if you refuse to have yourself screened by the full body scan, you will not be able to fly.

There are also a lot of new prohibited items that you can not bring onto the plane, or put into any of your baggage. Any sharp or pointed items must not be carried in hand baggage or in any other luggage. All these items will immediately be confiscated at security. Here is a list of items considered to be too sharp: all knives, cutlery, razor blades, hiking poles, and hypodermic needles.

Passengers can carry only one lighter in their pockets or carry on baggage. If you have more than one lighter, it cannot be taken into the restricted zone.

Umbrellas: Only certain types of umbrellas are allowed. The folding or collapsible types are fine only if they fit into your hand bag. All umbrellas will be X-rayed.

Now after you get through all of these annoying security and baggage checks, then AT LAST you can sit down on your comfortable seat on the airplane and relax! Whew! Now sit back and enjoy yourself and dream of all the great times you are going to have as you arrive in New York City! The flight from Heathrow to JFK is about 7 hours and 30 minutes flying time. Interestingly, the flight back from JFK to Heathrow is only about 6 hours and 50 minutes flying time. The reason it takes longer to go from London to NY is because the prevailing winds are coming directly at the plane as it flies westward towards the US.
